The Monkeys in the Middle

There are two great powers at work and mankind is caught in the middle. We are defined by this singular free will that provides the privilege of choice. The ultimate choice a man must make is between Light and Darkness, Life and Death, Growth or Decay. Both exist within us and without us. Both will exist well beyond our days, ever at odds yet entirely co-dependent. The war wages on into infinity and if either ever wins it will spell the end for both as one cannot exist without the other.

To decay is to have once grown and to die is to give life anew. Entropy and Order. Complimentary contradictions. Each day the individual must choose which master to serve. Both are indifferent to one’s choice but offer different dispositions that deepen the longer allegiance lingers. If a choice is not made actively it is given over to the subconscious that follows whichever master has the stronger precedence in one’s mind and habit.

In most cases, passivity serves Entropy while exercising the gift of active choice often serves Order. “Order,” as in the natural order of life that may seem chaotic at first but empowers the purest embodiment of the word. “Order” in the pursuit of pleasing aesthetics, or vanity, or consolidation of power and influence are but human mimicries, mockeries, or venerations of the greater natural order in this universe. Our allowance is to behold its majesty but not comprehend its full scope.

Externally, the fruits of both are quite apparent, observable, discernable. Internally, their influences are subtle. Entropy entices your spirit to decay and wither away. His power is in false promises and an alluring attractiveness to the void. His realm is deep sleep, dreamless black as warm as fleece and a feather bed. There is no consciousness there but all the comfort in the world. This place is given for us all to visit and find recuperation, but Order has set limits to these visits. Staying overlong can be felt well into our hours within the waking world.

Order is the challenge and the essence of creation. All of her children flourish in light and relish life; both of which are harsh yet lovely. Her realm is one of growth and ever-changing beauty. Infinitely unique yet master of replication. We humans tread upon her works often without recognizing them. Indeed we have her to thank for these forms we possess.
